Meet the

Dragon

One of the larger devil mas costumes and often paraded down the street restrained in chains by accompanying imps, the costume is fashioned after a dragon that some believe has Chinese influence. A main feature of this mas is the “dragon dance” that occurs whenever a drain or pool of water must be crossed over. Fearing that the water might be holy water, the dragon dances in a wild fit of rage and fear until he finally submits and works up the courage to cross over- a spectacle that represents this costume’s commentary on our understandings of good and evil.
